ProQuest adds Local Information Pages to its flagship library
reference resource, KnowUK.
Since its launch in 1999, KnowUK has given visitors to public libraries all over the
United Kingdom the power to cross-search over 90 of the UK's most popular reference resources, including
titles like Who's Who, The Municipal Yearbook and Hutchinson Almanac. The
launch of Local Information Pages extends the scope of the service, by giving access to local information
on one hundred of largest towns in the UK, plus all the London Boroughs. Users can find basic information
about the area, a zoomable map of the town, links to local services and facilities and access to
selected local websites. The coverage of Local Information Pages will be extended to Scotland and
further regions in the United Kingdom in January 2003 and up to 1,000 cities and towns will be covered
by the end of 2003.

SLIC (Scottish Library and Information Council) negotiates national licence on behalf of
Scotland's public libraries for leading UK reference resource, KnowUK.
Cambridge, UK - December 2002
ProQuest announces the issue of a national licence for its online reference
resource, KnowUK, which gives public libraries across Scotland access to over 90 of the UK's leading
reference publications.
Since its 1999 launch, KnowUK has grown to become one of the most well-respected and popular
electronic reference resources in the UK, with millions of people being able to access the service,
free of charge, from their local library. The national licence for Scotland is the first of its kind
and gives over 5 million people access to the latest editions of prominent publications like
Who's Who in Scotland, Hutchinson's Encyclopedia, Whitakers Almanac,
UK Advice Finder and Which? Guides.

Whitaker's Almanack, the UK's leading general reference book to be made available electronically for
the first time in its 135-year history.
Cambridge, UK. November 2002- ProQuest has announced an exclusive
agreement with A&C Black that will bring Whitaker's Almanack to the company's
KnowUK reference resource by the end of January 2003. The agreement allows ProQuest
to distribute Whitaker's content to educational institutions, public libraries, and other markets around
the world.
